The Campaign
The campaign has many elements coordinated to help South East Queensland councils get a fair share of the $20 billion Building Australia Fund.
1. What is the Building Australia Fund?
$20 Billion for Nation-Building Projects - The Rudd Labor Government has used its first Budget to make a substantial down-payment of its pledge to fix and modernise the nation's infrastructure. The Government has taken the far-reaching decision to allocate an initial $20 billion to its Building Australia Fund, money which in the years to come will be used to build critical economic infrastructure such as roads, rail, ports and broadband.
Media Release - the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, 13 May 2008.
The aim of the Council of Mayors (SEQ) submission is to address infrastructure deficits in the South East Queensland region; to enhance economic activity; lessen congestion on the drive to and from work; enhance existing road and public transport networks and have minimal impacts on the environment.
