Description

  • The project provides a public transport option to accommodate growth in the region and an intra-regional and inter-regional links to facilitate productive capacity. As well as accommodating growth, the provision of passenger rail will attract economic growth to the Sunshine Coast region.

Project Benefits

  • Reduction in congestion leading to greater efficiency, reduced delays and greater productivity.
  • Provision of a public transport option to assist movement of residents within the region but particularly providing easier access to employment centres.
  • The project will assist in maintaining and building the area's competitive advantages in fields such as the knowledge economy and tourism.
  • The project would be integrated with high growth development in the region and be available to provide an alternative to private car travel and stimulate transit oriented development nodes around stations and interchanges.
  • The project would increase the movement of residents by rail, change the private car based travel culture and assist in lowering existing congestion levels resulting in lower transport greenhouse emissions and increased productivity.
  • Better regional transport connectivity providing reliable, fast and frequent travel option for all residents and employees. It will have the added benefit of linking the hinterland communities to the coast.
  • The North Coast Rail Line upgrade and duplication from Caboolture to Landsborough (Phase 1 under construction). The delivery of the Multi-Modal Transport Corridor arterial road component linking Caloundra to Maroochydore, including a major interchange and crossing of the Mooloolah River. The project supports the new tertiary level regional hospital facility for the Sunshine Coast.
