Description
- The project will expand Australia's productive capacity by reducing congestion on Kingsford Smith Drive. This increases Australia's productive capacity by improving the access of workers in the north eastern suburbs of Brisbane to both Brisbane City Gateway and the Australia TradeCoast Gateway, thereby increasing the supply of labour to these economic centres.
Project Benefits
- Kingsford Smith Drive is a key arterial/feeder road that indirectly supports the AusLink national network (Gateway Motorway/Brisbane Urban Corridor). It also complements the proposed Airport Link project.
- Increase labour productivity by reducing travel times and costs for workers travelling between Brisbane City and its north-eastern suburbs, Brisbane Airport and Australia Trade Coast. This facilitates the more efficient use of existing port and airport infrastructure.
- Help diversify Australia's economic capabilities by increasing the efficiency with which existing infrastructure is used, thereby increasing the flexibility with which Austalian industry can adjust to, and take advantage of, changes in the economic environment.
- Help increase the competitive advantage that Australia already gains from its investment in the Australia TradeCoast port infrastructure.
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by improving traffic flow and hence reducing fuel consumption (due to less stop/start driving). Also reduces reliance on car useage by facilitating public transport.
- Improve quality of life by reducing congestion and accidents.
